Steps for Declaring a Major

Steps

In my mid-semester check-in with Professor Wagner, we discussed how rather than spend the time trying to pick a major, that instead, I should think of the steps that I would need to take in order to find information about declaring a major and narrowing down my options.

Finding Out Information

  • Talk to the counselors at GMU
  • Ask other students that have a majoor that I am interested in and ask for advice in finding out information of which classes I would need to take.
  • Ask some of my professors for advice
  • Make an appointment with the undeclared advisor by the next two weeks.
  • Go to some of the academic advisors, after having gone to the undeclared and have narrowed down my choices, and ask them which classes and type of major I should aim for.

Right now, I feel like some of the possible majors that I could choose are in the area of IT and maybe Business Administration.

Viability

I feel that definitely towards the end of this semester, I will have some of the skills necessary for finding out the information that I would need in order to declare a major. The main reason I feel strongly about this is because in our NCLC classes we always had to make sure that we had to scholarly research done in order to provide us with the prior research that has been done and to inform ourselves of any and all background history.

I feel confident in being able to look up the correct information and from that information, planning out questions that would provide me with more concrete and reliable answers.
